This is a FREE workshop. Deadline to register: Friday, August 7, 2026.

This workshop is a comprehensive overview of trustee duties, responsibilities and RSA authority and will provide you with the tools and information you need to be an effective library leader. The information is valuable to new trustees as well as a great refresher for seasoned trustees, who will also have the opportunity to share their experience. The last hour will focus on personnel management skills, including hiring, evaluations, and the role of volunteers. There will be ample time for your questions.

The following topics will be included:

  • Library Trustees --- A Job Description
  • Trustee Meetings and the Right to Know Law
  • NH Laws Relative to Public Libraries
  • Establishing Library Policies
  • Personnel Responsibilities
  • Budgeting and Management of Funds
  • The Trustee as Library Advocate

Be sure to familiarize yourself with the trustee manual found on the NHLTA website https://nhlta.org/. That will help clarify what will be covered in this orientation session.
